Superintendent Search

The Mount Vernon City School District conducted an extensive, nationwide search for its next Superintendent of Schools. The Mount Vernon Board of Education hired Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA) to conduct the search. 

As part of the superintendent search, the Board authorized a community forum with HYA consultants on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Mount Vernon Honor Academy from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The community forum was livestreamed at www.mtvernoncsd.org/superintendent-search.  

The board also authorized HYA consultants to conduct focus groups from Tuesday to Thursday, February 4 to 6. Focus group invites were sent to stakeholder groups throughout the community. 

A survey was released to gauge the state of the district, the desired leadership profile for the next superintendent and other considerations for the search. Click here to submit your responses.

In its community forum, focus groups and survey, HYA was looking to answer three questions to help find the right candidate:

• What are the strengths of the district?
• What are some of the challenges that the future superintendent must address? 
• What attributes would the ideal candidate need to be successful in this district? 

The purpose of these engagements was to find the qualities that the Mount Vernon community is most looking for in a candidate and to assist HYA in finding the best match for the job. 

HYA widely advertised the job, selected the best candidates, and presented those candidates to the Board. Following interviews and an extensive background search of the preferred candidate, a decision was made and announced to the public.
