Efficiency and Cost Savings Drive Budget Development

Work continues every day on the 2019-2020 fiscal plan for Academic Excellence. We have made great progress and are almost ready to present the Superintendent with the first draft of the 2019-2020 budget.  All mandated spending such as debt service, retirement, health insurance, social security, and salaries have been completed.  We are working on such areas as transportation, where we expect to cut costs through a new bid, and BOCES services.

The next step in the budgeting process is to determine the amount that each school will receive for textbooks, workbooks, supplies, field trips, and assemblies.  We also are working on athletics and staffing for each building.

The district has an active budget committee which meets every two weeks and is headed by Trustee Arlene Torres. This committee works diligently to identify cost saving measures that will have little or no impact on the education program. Our goal is to have as small a tax increase as possible or no tax increase.

More about this budget process will be forthcoming.
