Edward Williams School celebrates Pi Day with high spirits and sweet surprises

Edward Williams School celebrated Pi Day one day early, filling the building with excitement, teamwork and plenty of pie. Although Pi Day is officially recognized on March 14th, Assistant Principal Ms. Tiffany LeFever organized an early celebration on March 13th, so students and staff could enjoy the festivities together before the weekend.

Staff members helped set a cheerful tone by bringing in a variety of pies, which they enjoyed throughout the day. The combined enthusiasm from students and adults created exceptionally high morale, setting the stage for a memorable schoolwide event.

Pi Day Assemblies Bring Out Math Talent and Team Spirit

Students participated in a friendly challenge to recite as many digits of π (3.14...) as possible for the chance to win a class pizza party. Highlights included a second-grade student from Ms. Artist’s class who impressed everyone by memorizing and reciting 28 digits of π. Class 5G, who worked collaboratively to recite an amazing 71 digits of π, showing the power of teamwork and determination.

Students Get the Chance to Pie the Principal

One of the most exciting parts of the day came when students were invited to use their PAWS points for a chance to pie the principal. Students who chose to participate had their names added to a digital wheel of names, which was spun during the assembly to reveal the lucky winners. The room erupted with laughter and cheers as Mr. Casey bravely took each pie with school spirit and humor—making it a moment students will talk about for a long time.

Celebrating a Beloved Staff Member’s Retirement

In addition to Pi Day festivities, the Edward Williams family came together to honor Ms. Carol Leverett, who retired today after 23 years of dedicated service as a lunch monitor in the Mount Vernon City School District. Ms. LeFever and Mr. Casey led a heartfelt tribute, recognizing her years of commitment and the countless students she supported with kindness and care.

Filled with learning, laughter, celebration, and community pride, today’s early Pi Day event was the perfect sendoff into the weekend—one that brought smiles to students and staff across the school.
