Edward Williams hosts Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports assembly

“I am a self-controlled superhero!” Edward William Wildcats shouted during their most recent Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) assembly, discussing the importance of being disciplined in the classroom and hallways. View photos from the day here!

PBIS is a program designed to promote positive behavior in schools, while creating a safe, supportive learning environment for all. The theme for their most recent assembly was “superheroes,” centered around the importance of self-control.

The assembly started off by discussing how the schools’ pledge correlates with the PBIS theme for the month. Their pledge, PAWS, stands for: Pride in our school and in ourselves, Act kindly, Work Hard and (demonstrating) Self-control.

After discussing self-control and equity for walking in the halls, students watched videos created by their peers to determine if their behavior at school was right or wrong. Videos ranged from students walking in a straight, single-filed line, to students walking the hallway in disarray. 

The assembly then went into classroom behavior, with similar videos playing to determine which behavior demonstrates composure in school. Acting Principal Gregory Casey then went on to discuss what self-control is, and the power it can have. One presentation slide read “Self-control is the amazing ability to stop and think before we act. It’s like having a superpower button inside you!” 

Before awarding the Most Improved Student, Wildcat of the Month and students with perfect attendance, students practiced self-control through breathing exercises to help calm them down in upsetting or stressful situations. By the end of the assembly, students walked away with new tools to conquer discipline, showing everyone what Wildcats can do!
