Cecil H. Parker students celebrate National School Counseling Week by hearing from School Counselor
Students at Cecil H. Parker School celebrated National School Counseling Week (NSCW) with class visits from School Counselor Nikia Jones and Mercy HEART (Helping Evidence-Based Advocates with Responsive Training) Grant interns. The HEART Grant is a partnership with Mercy University that allows counseling students to intern and train in the District.
Ms. Jones visited grades 6 to 8 classrooms and discussed the American School Counselor Association’s NSCW theme of “Helping Students Thrive.” She ensured students that thriving means feelings safe, supported and valued. They also discussed high school options, and all that Mount Vernon has to offer to help them be successful.
Students also learned about and explored a quote by poet Maya Angelou: "My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor and some style".
