Mount Vernon High School students showcase their talents
Mount Vernon High School students displayed their talents on stage during the Express Yourself to Heal Your Heart event on Tuesday, February 25, 2025. Music and laughter filled the cafeteria as they performed.
For this initiative, students were able to sign up and perform during their lunch period. This not only gave students the opportunity to showcase their skills in front of the school, but it also allowed them to build confidence in themselves and their craft.
“This is actually the first time I’m singing in front of anyone at my school,” said Aliana Anderson, a senior at MVHS. “This was really nerve racking… It was different, but it was good too. I enjoyed it. I definitely appreciate my friends; they are the ones who encouraged me, who forced me to go there and sing. If it wasn’t for them, I don’t think I would have the confidence to do so.”
A variety of music genres were performed during the lunch periods, including rap, soul and pop. One student, Michael Morales, did a rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean,” complete with a moonwalk across the floor.
“Everybody was shocked that I did the moonwalk, everybody was screaming,” said Michael Morales, a senior at MVHS. “It was fun.”
Top performances were announced at the end of the day during the afternoon announcements. Students who are a part of the top performances of the day can pick up a prize in the main office.
