Health care panel presented at Mount Vernon High School

Health care panel presented at Mount Vernon High School

Career and Technical Education Nursing Assistant students and students taking Careers in Health gathered at the Community Center at Mount Vernon High School as they focused their attention on four guest speakers from various aspects of the health care field on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. During the panel, students were able to learn about job opportunities post graduation.

Speakers on the panel included Stacy-Ann Edwards from Westchester Community Health Center, Robert Ramirez from Summit Health, Esther Okeke from Burke Rehabilitation Center and Omar Stout of Empress EMS.

“This whole event, speaking with the kids here and informing them of different choices they have with healthcare is very beneficial,” said Esther Okeke, who is a Human Resources Benefits Assistant at Burke Rehabilitation Center. “Also, just having them come up after to take flyers and ask questions to get a better insight on it, definitely felt like I reached out to them and they heard what I was saying.”

The panel was presented by Westchester County Government in partnership with Westchester Community College. The discussion was mediated by Jason Chapin, Director of Workforce Development at the Westchester Country Association. Throughout the event, Mr. Chapin asked panelist questions including what they love most about their jobs and how students can learn about organizations and internship opportunities.

After Mr. Chapin finished asking the panelist open ended questions, students were able to ask the panelists questions before having the opportunity to speak with the panelist individually. During this, the panelists were able to provide guidance and insight into programs and networking.

“The panel for me was pretty interesting,” said Chelsea Crenshaw, a junior at MVHS. “I enjoyed hearing each professional talk about their jobs and the opportunities in each job. The job that stuck out to me most was the EMT because I want to help people, so I’m thinking of going into that kind of field.”
