Nelson Mandela/Dr. Hosea Zollicoffer School hosts Scholastic Book Fair

Scholars from Nelson Mandela/Dr. Hosea Zollicoffer School lined up in the media center with books in their hands, ready to purchase for the Scholastic Book Fair, which started on Monday, September 23, 2024 and goes until Friday, September 27, 2024.

“The kids are always excited, especially at the beginning of the year because they get to start off the year with fresh books,” said Billy DeMorris, Reading Specialist at NMHZ. “Even beyond just having the basic books, there's also phonic kits that are able to help support the kids with their reading. There are different level texts for all abilities and a lot of high interest texts as well.”

A goal for the District is to improve scholar’s educational success by continuing to encourage recreational reading. Reading is part of the three pillars of the fundamentals of education, along with writing and arithmetic. These pillars are part of Acting Superintendent Dr. Smith’s objectives for the District’s Forward to Mastery, Back to Basics theme.
