Scholars at Grimes School read "The Smart Cookie" to learn about self-worth
Grimes School celebrated Read Across America Week by sharing the #1 New York Times bestselling picture book, "The Smart Cookie" by Jory John and Pete Oswald. The book helped teach the universal message of self-worth and the willingness to grow.
All students in grades K-5 enjoyed a read aloud conducted by the reading specialists, Ms. DeCecco and Mrs. Keane, which was followed by an activity. Students in Kindergarten and first grade decorated a cookie, second and third graders made a cookie jar full of cookies that listed each child’s strengths, and fourth and fifth grade students filled in the acronym SMART, where they listed ways to be a responsible student. Students shared their work and then enjoyed a delicious cookie! A great time was had by all!
