Grimes School students share poetry for No Place for Hate activity

Grimes School students share poetry for No Place for Hate activity

For National Poetry Month, Grimes School students read and wrote poetry about themselves as the third No Place for Hate Activity of the school year. Students read their poetry to their classmates on Friday, April 19, 2024.

Students explored the various aspects of their identity in their poems, including their name, race, ethnicity, physical characteristics and more. This lesson provided an opportunity for students to learn about poetry, understand the role of metaphors and comparisons in poetry and reflect on aspects of their identity in order to write an acrostic poem about themselves.

The activity was titled “Ally – Who am I? Acrostic Poetry Author Series.” Students shared information about themselves in acrostic poems to connect with their peers and become better allies.

Students have completed two other No Place for Hate activities this year in order to strengthen the school community and send the message that hate, bullying and bias are not accepted at Grimes School.
