Grimes School families celebrate National Family Day

Grimes School families celebrate National Family Day

Families at Grimes School ate together, did arts and crafts, and played games in the cafeteria to celebrate National Family Day on Monday afternoon. The celebration was hosted by the Mount Vernon Youth Bureau and Mount Vernon Community That Cares to encourage families to sit down, eat together, and have family time regularly.

As the families played games together, they also heard from Superintendent Dr. Demario Strickland, Grimes Principal Dr. Severin Cornelius and Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard, who all emphasized the importance of family time. Dr. Strickland also highlighted the importance of families staying invested in their children’s education and preparing them for success at school.

Prizes were also awarded to families who got the most answers correct in a game where they were tested on how well they knew each other. The game also promoted open dialogue between child and parent, and they were encouraged to continue learning more about each other.
