Grimes School eighth graders create community cookbook

Eighth grade students at Grimes School recently completed their Civic Readiness Project, a community cookbook catering to the residents of Mount Vernon specifically. Civic Readiness Projects allow students to demonstrate their civic knowledge through research and problem solving.

Students also visited classes throughout the school to present their cookbook to their peers.

Inside these pages is a wealth of information on the solutions to problems people face such as reducing costs, promoting healthy habits, promoting diversity and protecting the environment. In addition to providing information on these topics the book is also filled with recipes, guides, and other tools to help people at home address these issues. The class is planning to donate copies of the cookbook.

“We hope that this guide will provide Mount Vernon residents with everything they need to reduce costs, stay healthy, protect the environment, as well as promote and celebrate diversity,” said Trevor Latasa, social studies teacher at Grimes.
