Happy School Librarian Day! DWSA students complete March Madness bracket for books

For the month of March, Denzel Washington School of the Arts Library Media Specialist, Diana Wendell, inspired students to get excited about reading with a March Book Madness Challenge! Each week, middle and high school students were encouraged to vote for their favorites in the bracket. This event started during National Read Across America Week. DWSA’s March Book Madness was part of a national program started by two school librarians: https://marchbookmadness.weebly.com/

Each week, DWSA’s picks were entered into the national system.

The brackets were posted each week on the DWSA Library page as well as a link for voting, a link for book trailers, and also for the e-books. Copies of the books were available in the DWSA Library and on the e-book App, SORA.  Ms. Wendell also collaborated with Teen Librarian Deborah Nelson at the Mount Vernon Public Library who kindly purchased the books and put them on display there.  Students were definitely excited about some of the books! 

The winning book was “Some Kind of Hate,” by Sarah Darer Littman.
