DWSA Gospel Choir performs at Radio City Music Hall

The Denzel Washington School of the Arts Gospel Choir made a trip to New York City on Thursday, December 12, 2024, to perform at the Radio City Christmas Spectacular starring the Rockettes. They were led by led by Choir Director Angela Hall, Creative Executive Director for the District, and Co-Director Tanya Mack, a teacher at DWSA.

Students were able to take part in this performance through the Sounds of Christmas Experience, which is an initiative created by Radio City Music Hall to give public school choirs in the NY Metropolitan area an opportunity to perform a five-minute live acapella performance as part of the Christmas Spectacular pre-show.

This is the first time the DWSA Gospel Choir has performed in the show, and they were selected after submitting a video of them singing a holiday themed song.

Gospel Choir Summary:
The Denzel Washington School of the Arts Gospel Choir is composed of Dance, Theater, Music, and Visual Arts students in grade 6 through 12. Students sing in the choir on a volunteer basis as a result of their love for the genre of gospel music. The DWSA Gospel Choir has performed on the same bill as award-winning Gospel music artist, Vince Bohannon and SOP. They were the featured guest choir at the annual 2024 Pinkster event held at the National Historic site at Phillipsburg Manor in Sleepy Hollow, performed at the state capital in Albany for Regent Judith Johnson, sang at the Mount Vernon Armory for State Senator Jamal Bailey, and performed at Mount Vernon City Hall for Mayor Shawn Patterson-Howard. They have also performed for Denzel and Pauletta Washington and a host of dignitaries and politicians. They will be hosting their third annual Gospel Music Night on Friday, March 21, 2025, at the Phylicia Rashad Auditorium.
