Two MVHS students volunteer at SkillsUSA Regional Competition

Yanick St. Cyr and Anna Valinda Mendy, Mount Vernon High School 12th-grade Nursing Assistant Program students, volunteered at the Southern Westchester Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) SkillsUSA Regional Competition on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the Center for Career Services. Yanick and Anna Valinda are also in the SkillsUSA Club at MVHS.

They assisted with the certified nursing assistant portion of the competition, which tested some of the skills that they have been learning about in class. They acted as patients for the range of motion exercises and observed the handwashing competition. Through this, they learned about common mistakes made in the competition, which can help them prepare for the Prometric exam to become certified nursing assistants.

Anna Valinda and Yanick say they plan to volunteer at White Plains Hospital in the nursing unit or emergency room for their next volunteer experience.
