Technology highlighted as District strength in Leadership Profile Report

During the Leadership Profile Report at the Mount Vernon Board of Education meeting last month, the superintendent search survey highlighted the Mount Vernon City School District's technology integration in classrooms as a key strength. Data collected from 810 individuals, focus groups, and interviews revealed that three out of five strengths were linked to the Technology Department.

The strengths were:

  • Technology is integrated into the classroom.
  • Teachers customize instructional strategies to meet individual learning needs.
  • The District's technology infrastructure is sufficient to support technology use in the classroom.

Carlos Ramirez, Director of Technology, stated, “Technology is not just a support system; it is a transformative tool that empowers every department to achieve its mission.”

This demonstrates how technology fosters collaboration and innovation while fulfilling the District’s vision of excellence and equity.

The report emphasizes that technology is effectively integrated into teaching and learning. Tools such as Office 365, Schoology, SMART boards, and online resources enable classrooms to adapt to the digital age. Personalized learning platforms like Khan Academy and i-Ready allow teachers to tailor instruction to individual student needs, enhancing engagement and supporting development.

“We use technology to provide quality support for all students, staff, and parents of the Mount Vernon City School District,” said Dr. K. Veronica Smith, Acting Superintendent. “The Technology Department provides students with laptops to aid in schoolwork, supports parents and teachers by engaging with them regularly, and is efficient in addressing all of the District’s technological needs.”

The Technology Department also provides online modules and virtual workshops for teachers, along with assistive technology like speech-to-text and screen readers, ensuring equitable access to education. Furthermore, the district’s technology infrastructure is robust, with efficient support systems in place to meet the needs of students and educators.

Overall, the strengths identified in the superintendent search survey exemplify the District's commitment to using technology to empower students, educators, and parents.
