Spring sports sign-ups and winter sports updates

Spring season is right around the corner beginning on March 16. Spring Sports includes Baseball, Softball, Outdoor Track for Boys and Girls, Girls Flag Football, Boys Tennis, and Modified Track for boys and girls in grades 7 and 8. Sign up time for Spring Sports is exactly one month before the start of the season. Be ready to sign up on the District website on February 16 to get medically cleared. Check out how the season is going for winter sports below!

Boys Track: This year boys track is a group of young talented athletes who are upholding the culture of success. Our throwers continue to have success throughout the year. Currently our 4x2 is ranked as the #3 fastest relay in section 1 as their pursuit to be number 1 continues on through the midway point of the season. This year's young group has the potential for great success through their hard work.

Wrestling: Our wrestling team this year is a young gritty group with a lot of first year wrestlers who are competing at a high level. We have girls who get to compete and wrestle other girls their weight just like the boys. Some stand out records and wrestlers are our captain senior Eric Rodrigues who has been ranked top 5 in the section this year and has a record of 14-3, and Heyli Marte who is a first-year female wrestler at 6-4. Caiden Hylton is currently the #3 wrestler in the entire Section One with a 17-2 record. Go Mount Vernon Wrestling!

Girls Track: This season for girls track has been quite the roller coaster ride, but we are still thriving. We have many new faces that we are welcoming into our track family this year. We are not even halfway through our season but our 4x200 relay, our Junior hurdler Taj Lovell and our Junior thrower Amirah Arroya have already qualified for Nike Nationals this season and are still looking to improve! Amirah Arroya, who qualified for both shot put and weight throw is currently #18 in New York state in the weight throw and hopes to break into the top 10 sooner than later.

Boys Basketball: The Team traveled to Hawaii to play in the Iolani Prep Classic. The trip was an experience that the athletes will cherish for a lifetime, loaded with great Basketball and an indoctrination to Polynesian culture. The Pearl Harbor visit was moving and the food at the Luau was great. The team went 3 wins and 1 loss in a strong field. Fellas can't wait to finally play some home games.
