MVCSD hosts Universal Prekindergarten drawing for three-year-olds

The Universal Prekindergarten lottery for three-year-olds (UPK-3) was held on Friday morning at the Mount Vernon City School District Board of Education office for the upcoming 2025 - 2026 school year. This is the fifth year the District has offered UPK-3 and 30 spots were available

Director of Prekindergarten, Dr. Gayle White, introduced herself and explained the lottery process before drawing numbers.

Participants were given a specialized number for their children to identify them in the lottery. Selections were chosen using a generated wheel that picked numbers out one-by-one. In addition to the 30 selected, 40 families were added to the waiting list.

All families who participated in the lottery will receive a letter notifying them if they were chosen, on the wait list, or did not make the cut on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. Those who were selected will have up to a week to fill out their registration application: https://www.mtvernoncsd.org/family-community/registration/online-registration

If families do not complete and submit their registration within a week from receiving their letter, their spot will be taken by someone on the waiting list. Families are encouraged to fill out the required forms and submit any other information needed as soon as they receive their letter.
