Mount Vernon City School District hosting Parent Involvement Day
Monday, February 13, 2023, is Parent Involvement Day in the Mount Vernon City School District. Each school will host parents and guardians joining their children at school from 9am to 2pm. Families can participate in class visits, family workshops, and more. This year is the 26th annual Parent Involvement Day.
After a short breakfast and greetings from principals and parent liaisons, parents and guardians will begin visiting classrooms with their children. There will be parent engagement presentations and parent support workshops focused on social-emotional learning and mental health. At Benjamin Turner Middle School, Community School Coordinator Lisa Autieri will highlight Judy’s Closet and how it can help the school community.
Cecil H. Parker School will hold a workshop called “Making Technology Easier,” and they will discuss family literacy activities for students in all grades. Pennington will also have a parent engagement workshop for social emotional learning and Title I. Classes in the Career and Technical Education program will be highlighted at Mount Vernon High School. They will also make parents aware of the community partnerships available for students and families to use within Mount Vernon.
Each school will have different activities, but all activities will be focused on how families can be more involved in their children’s education. They will also have another opportunity to meet their children’s teachers and learn how they can further support their children.
