Director of STEAM Dr. Satish Jagnandan serves as Superintendent for the Day
Director of STEAM Dr. Satish Jagnandan has spent over 16 years in the Mount Vernon City School District; on Friday, May 3, 2024, he spent the day as the superintendent. Dr. Jagnandan served as the sixth superintendent in Acting Superintendent Dr. K. Veronica Smith’s Superintendent for the Day series.
“I was most excited about leading this community,” said Dr. Jagnandan. “In my almost two decades in Mount Vernon, I’ve never had the opportunity to look through the lens of a superintendent and see their scope and sequence on a daily basis. The new perspective on running the District was the most exciting.”
Dr. Jagnandan led meetings throughout the day, including one for a fundraiser being held by the District. He engaged with the school community and made decisions to keep the District running smoothly.
“What was eye-opening was the community engagement,” said Dr. Jagnandan. “I really didn’t have a chance to experience that over the last few years. Just reaching out and communicating with a lot of our stakeholders was the most impressive to me.”
To execute the duties of the role efficiently, Dr. Jagnandan needed to prioritize and delegate tasks and work as a team with other administrators in the District.
“Since it is new to me, you want to do everything that’s happening, but sometimes you have to delegate to the assistant superintendents,” said Dr. Jagnandan. “Prioritizing and making sure that everyone's voice was heard today is really important in taking ownership of this role. I just want to thank Dr. Smith and all of the cabinet members for giving me this opportunity. There have been some wonderful leaders here that I have had the opportunity to learn from.”
