Dr. K. Veronica Smith, Acting Superintendent:

As their terms as trustees of the Mount Vernon City School District come to an end, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Trustee Adriane Saunders, Trustee Lorna Kirwan, and Trustee Helene Thompson-Njenga for all they have done for our District during their time in office. They served as champions for education, always making decisions to better serve the children of Mount Vernon. Our District will wear the mark of the work they have done for years to come, and I am so appreciative of everything we were able to accomplish together for our scholars.

During their tenure, we were able to make great strides. They advocated for the education of all students, ensuring that special education and other vital programs had the resources needed to be successful. They worked to introduce and maintain after school programs and ushered in partnerships that will help the District for years to come. Their oversight of our schools allowed us to navigate through challenges with knowledge and preparedness, always tackling them head on.

Thank you also for the trust you have given me to serve as Acting Superintendent for a District that is so close to my heart. This trust allowed me to get right to the important work of supporting our scholars, always focusing on their needs first. We completed a building reorganization, in large part because these trustees were not intimidated by making a major change if it meant a more suitable educational environment for Mount Vernon students.

Thank you again for all you have done for the Mount Vernon City School District and our community.
