Community Message - Air Quality Tests at Graham School
From Acting Superintendent Dr. K. Veronica Smith:
The Mount Vernon City School District conducted air quality tests throughout the Graham School building on Thursday, September 19, 2024. The tests confirmed that the air quality is safe for students and staff and is well below the permissible exposure limits outlined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
Air quality was tested using SidePak aerosol monitors in four sections of the building. Three of the areas tested had work done during recent renovations. A fourth section of the building, which was not renovated, was tested as well for comparison. The monitors took samples of the air every 60 seconds for over six hours, testing the samples throughout the day. Air was tested for aerosols such as dust and mold, and all rooms were deemed safe.
The highest level of aerosols recorded was 0.056 Mg/m3. OSHA’s permissible exposure limits are 5.0 Mg/m3, so every area in the building is at least 4 Mg/m3 below that level.
