On Thursday, February 13, the Mount Vernon City School District Parent Liaison Team hosted a parent and guardian workshop entitled Chronic Illness, Loss, and the Impact on Your Child. Their guest presenter was Ms. Jennifer Ricca, MS, CCLS, Children, Teens, and Family Manager for the Cancer Support Community Greater NY & CT.
Masked singers gave their all on the auditorium stage, singing popular songs and donning creative costumes. On Thursday, February 13, 2025, families and friends filed into the Mount Vernon Leadership Academy auditorium to watch the Masked Eagle singing contest.
Careers in Health and Nursing Assistant students visited Monroe University’s New Rochelle campus on Thursday, February 13, and took a tour of the campus. They learned about programs at the School of Allied Health Professions, including Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Medical Assisting and Surgical Technology. Students are excited to visit Monroe University in the spring for the Nursing programs.
Today, Friday, February 14, 2025, marks the two-year anniversary of Dr. K. Veronica Smith’s first day as Acting Superintendent. Join the Mount Vernon City School District in wishing her a happy anniversary! In these two years, the District has emphasized its commitment to its scholars. Through the Back to Basics, Forward to Mastery approach, where teachers are getting back to the fundamentals of teaching and learning, the District has seen great academic improvements, leading graduation rates and test scores to trend upward.

On Thursday, February 13th, 2025, students at Mount Vernon High School whooped and cheered on their fellow classmates and student athletes during a pep rally to celebrate all eight winter sports teams. Participants in the crowd were excited to play tug o’ war and jam to the music provided by student DJs.
