Volunteer with the MVCSD

The MVCSD Volunteer Program is a district-wide initiative that gives individuals the opportunity to support school and community events, participate in district-wide service days, and strengthen connections with colleagues, students, and families.

Volunteering offers several benefits, including:

• Boosting morale by building teamwork and school spirit
• Making a meaningful impact on staff, students, families, and the community
• Developing leadership and service opportunities outside of daily responsibilities
• Helping to showcase the Board of Education’s commitment to service and community engagement

Staff may volunteer at:

• School-based events (literacy nights, food drives, student showcases, athletic events, career days, etc.)
• District initiatives (mentoring programs, tutoring, community outreach)
• District-wide Volunteer Days (one in Fall/Winter, one in Spring/Summer)

A sign-up link is available on the Mount Vernon Board of Education website. Individuals can browse opportunities and register for events that fit their interests and availability.

At the start, individuals will sign in at events or confirm participation with event coordinators. As the program develops, a web portal will be added where you can log and track your volunteer hours directly.

Yes! As the program grows, the district will explore ways to recognize individual contributions, such as highlighting participants on the website, in newsletters, or at board meetings.

Yes. There will be two official Volunteer Days each year:

• Fall/Winter Volunteer Day – Service opportunities such as food drives, coat donations, or school clean-ups
• Spring Volunteer Day – Events such as school beautification, student celebrations, or community outreach projects

  • American Education Week November 17 – 21
  • Volunteer Day December 5
  • Martin Luther King Day January 19
  • Volunteer Recognition Day April 20
  • Earth Day April 22
