"It's Okay to Not Be Okay"

In efforts to fight the stigma on mental health in our community, the Mount Vernon City School District has partnered with the City of Mount Vernon and Community Agencies. #MountVernonStandsTogether! As partners, we are RENEWING our commitment to ensure that we provide a healthy community where our students can learn, play, and reach their full potential.

Our first step is to openly promote conversations about the importance of mental health and wellness within our community. As the symbol of our partnership and devotion to fighting the stigma on mental health, lawn signs were created and are being distributed across our homes, the city, businesses and schools. The QR code leads to this Mental Health & Wellness Page, where we will provide information on upcoming wellness events, workshops for students, families, staff and community members, a variety of resources and support groups, and more!

Art Therapy

Students participated in an art therapy session on Saturday, January 28, 2023. The session began by a guided meditation, followed by a lesson on the effectiveness of using art to express emotions. This session included having students create their own mandalas (an inspirational and therapeutic design which represents the self and our emotions). Parents/guardians also joined which created an amazing bonding experience.

More sessions to come! Which will be targeted towards different age groups.
