Freedom of Information Law (FOIL)
In accordance with New York State Law, the Mount Vernon City School District complies with the Public Officers Law, Article 6, Freedom of Information Law (F.O.I.L).
Under the FOIL law, all records* (with certain limitations) produced and/or maintained by the school district are considered public documents and subject to the freedom of information requests.
The most common FOIL requests include requests for contracts between the district and third party vendors, collective bargaining agreements, financial information and records of Board of Education action.
Much of this information is already available on the District's Board Docs site. For help navigating the Board Docs site, or accessing information on the site you may contact Rick McCormack, District Clerk via email or at (914) 665-5235.
FOIL request may be submitted online, using the Freedom of Information request form. Request may also be submitted in writing. You must provide your name, address, telephone number and a brief description of the records being sought.
Requests should be sent to:
Richard P. McCormack, Records Access Officer
165 N. Columbus Avenue
Mount Vernon, NY 10553
* Most of the exceptions are based upon common sense and the potential for harm that would arise by means of disclosure. If disclosure of records would be damaging to an individual or preclude a government agency from carrying out its duties, it is likely that some aspects of the records may be withheld.
