Thank you for your decision to participate as a volunteer in the Mount Vernon City School District. A parent, grandparent, neighbor or community member has rich and rewarding ideas, talents and time to share with our students and our school community. We believe that family and community engagement is beneficial to everyone. Our school-based and Education Center programs help to foster stronger school/community relationships by creating a common ownership in the success of our district and schools. They also demonstrate the importance of community service to all involved in the program, especially students.
We greatly appreciate all of our volunteers who provide much needed assistance to students and teachers in so many ways, from attending school field trips and athletic competitions to classroom assistance.
This manual serves as a resource for all current and prospective volunteers for the Mount Vernon City School District. It contains District policies and procedures for volunteers, including the processes to apply for clearances.
Please read through this handbook carefully. It is designed to give you much of the information necessary to make your volunteer experience with our District productive and rewarding. If you have any questions, please direct them to the School Principal or Parent Liaison for your school.
Thank you for devoting your time to this worthy endeavor.
Yours for the sake of all children,
Dr. Kenneth R. Hamilton
