Art at Hamilton School centers on creativity and problem-solving with a twist of fun. At its core, our program's focus is upon developing a strong understanding of the Elements of Art (line, color, shape, value, texture, form), artistic behavior (creative thinking, problem-solving) and visual literacy. Students grow as artists, both as thinkers and doers, by becoming familiar with the vocabulary of art, the methods and steps to analyze artwork, and by practicing skills for speaking and writing about art.
As makers, our students grow through experiences in various media and techniques, exploring their creativity with art from around the globe. Most of all, students are encouraged to be themselves, create from their hearts and get their hands dirty.
Parents with concerns for tidiness are encouraged to send in an art smock (an old button down shirt is a good choice) for children labeled with his or her name and class code in permanent marker.
