Guidance Curriculum
Pacing Guide
Effective July 1, 2019, the Amendment to subdivision (j) of section 100.2 of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education was adopted by the Board of Regents. This amended regulation provides direction for developing a Guidance Comprehensive Curriculum/Pacing Guide to assist students in achieving academic success in grades K-12. There are three major areas that must be included within the Pacing Guide. These components include:
- Academics
- Social/Emotional (Character Education), and
- College/Careers
It is also imperative that students have access to licensed School Counselors to assist in fostering opportunities for all students to be successful. Districts are encouraged to adopt the “Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child,” model, which is a multi-tiered approach to fostering better school climates and ultimately better student outcomes. This model places an emphasis on Social Emotional Learning (SEL). Moreover, School Counselors are expected to use the standards outlined by the National Standards for Students (ASCA).
The Mount Vernon City School District Guidance Department, is very proud of its effort in creating this very Comprehensive Guidance Curriculum that addresses student’s social emotional needs, career and academic development. This Comprehensive Guidance Curriculum will serve as an academic guide for implementing strategies and activities to support student learning.
