Health
Health is offered to our students at the middle school and high school levels. We recently piloted HealthSmart curriculum and are pleased to announce that we will offer HealthSmart as our Health curriculum.
HealthSmart is a comprehensive K–12 health education program. It gives children and youth the knowledge and skills to make healthy choices and establish life-long healthy behaviors. HealthSmart:
- Is built on research and best practice. This evidence-informed program incorporates the Characteristics of Effective Health Education Curricula from the CDC.
- Meets national standards. HealthSmart gives students the functional knowledge and essential skills required to achieve health literacy defined in the National Health Education Standards. It's also been aligned to the National Sexuality Education Standards, as well as many New York State standards.
- Complies with HECAT. Lesson objectives and assessments are based on the knowledge and skill expectations in the CDC’s Health Education Curriculum Analysis Tool.
- Supports Common Core and Next Generation Learning Standards. All lesson activities have been aligned to performance indicators for English Language Arts.
