New York State Education Testing Program English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, FLACS & Regents Tests

Dear Grades K-8 Parents & Guardians:

In a few weeks, the New York State English Language Arts (Grades 3-8), Mathematics (Grades 3-8), Science (Grades 5 & 8), FLACS (Grade 8 – Spanish & French), and Regents (Grade 8 - Biology, Living Environment, Algebra 1) Tests will be administered to our students.

The state assessment results are used to help:

  • Parents learn about their children’s academic achievement;
  • Teachers understand how well students are learning what is being taught;
  • School, district, and state education leaders determine what is and is not working well; and
  • Stakeholders identify achievement gaps that may be forming among different student populations.
  • Students participate in these tests (paper-based or computer-based) within the regularly scheduled school day. The tests will be administered as follows:

Your child’s teacher has provided him/her with important strategies to respond to a variety of questions that may appear on the test. Below are simple things that can be done to help ensure that your child does well on his/her upcoming state tests:

  1. Make sure your child gets plenty of rest.
  2. Make sure your child arrives at school on time so they can have a nutritious breakfast.
  3. Remind your child not to rush but rather to pace themselves.

Should you have any questions about the tests or require additional information for helping your child, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or principal. Thank you for your continued support.
