  • Mission:
    The Mount Vernon City School District School Counselors are vital members of the education community.  Mount Vernon School Counselors serve students PK-12 in all 16 schools, as well as those in the Performing and Visual Arts Program. The mission of the Mount Vernon City School District’s School Counseling Department is to provide students with personalized guidance services in the areas of academic achievement and personal and social development. Our program has a a strong emphasis on early college and career awareness ensuring that all students have an exceptional educational experience.

    What We Do:

    Guidance service delivery:

    ·       Classroom Guidance Lessons

    ·       Individual and small group counseling

    ·       Large Group Assembly Information Sessions

    ·       Crises Intervention

    ·       Members of RtI (Response to Intervention) and PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) teams

    ·      Each student and their parent/guardian in Grades 9 – 12 are invited in at least once per school year to meet with their School            Counselor, to discuss the students high school and post-secondary plans and options.

                            o   Grade 9:                December – January (After the Marking Period 1)

                            o   Grade 10:             March

                            o   Grade 11:             February

                            o   Grade 12:             September
