  • STEAM Academy Senior Valaine Clarke Receives Full Athletic Scholarship to Xavier University of Louisiana

    Valaine Clarke, a member of the Mount Vernon STEAM Academy Class of 2021, recently received a full athletic scholarship to Xavier University of Louisiana. On Friday, March 5, the Mount Vernon City School District held a ceremonial signing where Clarke committed to play as part of the university’s women’s tennis program.

  • Public Hearing & Meeting Notice

    PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that a Public Hearing on Intellectus Preparatory Charter School application will take place on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 beginning at 5:30 p.m. The public hearing will take place virtually via Zoom. Comments to be read at the hearing regarding the charter school application should be submitted, in writing before 5:30 p.m. Additional comments will be accepted through March 14, 2021. All comments received will become part of the official record of the proceeding. PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that a Meeting of the Mount Vernon Board of Education will be held on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will take place virtually, with ALL trustees participating via Zoom to Meeting. Under Governor Cuomo's Executive Order #202.1 "CONTINUING TEMPORARY SUSPENSION AND MODIFICATION OF LAWS RELATING TO THE DISASTER EMERGENCY" we will be hosting the meeting without permitting in-person public access to these meetings. Members of the public may view the meeting LIVE on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/MountVernonCitySchoolDistrict and the district website www.mtvernoncsd.org at the prescribed start time. The meeting will also be recorded and available for playback on the district's Board Docs website. The Board of Education welcomes public comments at all public meetings.   • Health Experts Join Mount Vernon City School District Administrators for Reopening Panel Discussion

    Mount Vernon City School District Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kenneth R. Hamilton led a panel discussion with leading health experts from across Westchester County and an expert on environmental air quality to answer community questions related to the District’s reopening plans. The panel was held virtually via Zoom and Facebook Live on Tuesday, March 2, 2021. Superintendent Dr. Kenneth R. Hamilton was joined by Michael Pellicio, Director of Facilities and Logistics for the District; Dr. Dial Hewlett, Medical Director at Westchester County Department of Health; Dr. Ada J. Huang, an internist and infectious disease specialist who serves as the Deputy Commissioner at Westchester County Department of Health; Dr. Richard Lynch, a certified industrial hygienist and consultant for the District, among others; Dr. Yeou-Cheng Ma, Medical Director for the Mount Vernon City School District and Southern Westchester BOCES; and Mr. Joseph Glazer, Deputy Commissioner for the Department of Community Mental Health in Westchester County.

  • District Celebrates Ribbon-Cutting of State-of-the-Art Culinary Kitchen at The Mount Vernon High School

    The Mount Vernon City School District celebrated with a ribbon cutting and cooking demonstration of its new, state-of-the-art culinary program kitchen at The Mount Vernon High School on Thursday, February 25th. Renovation and construction of the facility was funded with a $1 million capital improvement grant through New York State Senator Alessandra Biaggi. The project sought to revitalize the culinary lab and program at the high school. Following the ribbon cutting, Superintendent Dr. Kenneth R. Hamilton, or “Chef Ham” as he was known for the evening, joined culinary students in preparing a delicious meal for those in attendance.

  • MVCSD Staff Join Judge Lauren Lake and Bestselling Author Susan L. Taylor for Interactive Panel Discussion in Honor of Black History Month

    On Wednesday, Feb. 24th, more than 100 Mount Vernon City School District faculty and staff joined Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kenneth R. Hamilton and his cabinet as they hosted an interactive panel discussion. The topic for the event was strategies teachers can use to help students shatter glass ceilings they may encounter and redefine how the world sees them.
