PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that a Special Meeting of the Mount Vernon Board of Education will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Holmes School, 195 N. Columbus Ave., Mount Vernon, NY 10553. It is anticipated that the Board of Education will immediately adjourn to executive session to discuss collective bargaining negotiations. The Board of Education does not anticipate returning to public session for further action. The Board of Education welcomes public comments at all Special meetings, provided they are related to an item on the agenda. Mount Vernon City School District Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kenneth R. Hamilton was recognized in a recent article published by District Administration, a publication delivering cutting-edge coverage of educational leadership, technology, news, curriculum, and policy finance to district-level K-12 school leaders across the country. In the article, Dr. Hamilton was applauded for his work in reviving a struggling school district since taking the helm in 2014 and executing his 20/20 Vision for improvement.
Ahmad Davis-Warner, a recent graduate of The Mount Vernon High School, has been awarded a generous academic scholarship to play football at the State University of New York (SUNY) Brockport that covers nearly all expenses related to tuition, room, and board. Davis-Warner will pursue degrees in business and sports management at the university.
Ashanti Palmer, a graduating senior at Nellie A. Thornton High School and the Performing & Visual Arts Magnet Program, is the school’s valedictorian for the Class of 2020. She has also achieved perfect attendance for the entirety of her educational experience in the Mount Vernon City School District, beginning in Pre-K and culminating in this, her senior year of high school.

Lincoln Elementary School is one of the largest elementary school in the Mt. Vernon City School District, servicing students from Kindergarten through 8th grade. We are located at 170 E Lincoln Avenue, a main fairway through the heart of Mt. Vernon in the southernmost end of the Fleetwood neighborhood. There are on average of three classrooms per grade level in grades K-8. We are a diverse and inclusive campus serving 650 students depending on enrollment. Most families reside in the surrounding neighborhood and walk to school. Others in our school community are bused from areas throughout Mt. Vernon. A talented staff and an active PTA support our students in achieving our mission of engaging, educating and empowering our children.
