As the seniors of Mount Vernon STEAM Academy graduated on Monday, June 21, they also reached a milestone for the District. The 100 members of the Class of 2021 were the first to become alumni of their school, and they did so amid praise, reflection and a song from Superintendent Dr. Kenneth R. Hamilton.
In a live, 90-minute talk show entitled “Moving Beyond The Pandemic,” the Mount Vernon City School District on Thursday, June 17, discussed the plan to achieve a full transition to traditional in-person learning by having up to 3,000 students attend summer school – even if their grades do not reflect the need to attend.
Sixty teachers, administrators and support staff members were granted tenure by the Mount Vernon Board of Education on Tuesday, June 15, to cheers and accolades.
Fourth-grade students at Lincoln Elementary School taught each other on Thursday, June 17th, about Juneteenth, the commemoration of the day in 1865 when word of freedom reached slaves in Texas.
