The first season for the Mount Vernon boys swim team, made up of 10 underclassmen from all three high schools, came to a close recently. They learned a lot about swimming different strokes and competitive swimming. If anyone is interested in joining the team or learning more about swimming, contact Coach Patricia Ryan.
Dr. Kenneth R. Hamilton, Superintendent of Schools, and Dr. Jeff Gorman, Deputy Superintendent of Schools, are at the National Conference on Education to deliver a presentation titled, “20/20 Academic Vision For Excellence: The Transformation of an Urban School District.”
Holmes School’s fifth-graders performed a play “Dig a Little Deeper” to recognize black history for the other students in the school, their parents and Board Trustee Warren Mitchell on Thursday, February 13th.
The Mount Vernon City School District has paired up with the First Tee Metropolitan New York chapter to begin teaching a group of 15 elementary students, mostly from Lincoln School, about golf and a little bit more. It’s the first golf program of its kind at the elementary level in the district.
The Mount Vernon City School District hosted its annual Parent Involvement Day on Monday, February 10th. Schools opened their doors to parents to spend the day with their children and see how they learn in the classroom.
