Lincoln is the largest elementary school in Mount Vernon. We have over 800 students, 39 homeroom teachers, and a support staff of resource professionals and teacher aides. Our complex includes an annex building on Rich Avenue where Lincoln students occupy the second and third floors.
Lincoln's environment is designed to stimulate the intellectual and emotional growth of students so that they will acquire the power to continue growing after their school days are over. Our goal is to work collaboratively and creatively to develop the total child. From the Kindergarten Tea in September to Graduation in June, our work is curriculum related, including projects on the Continental Drift Theory, Fossils of the Future, dioramas depicting anachronisms from Pre-Cambrian to Cenozoic Eras, and messages in hieroglyphics. An extensive multi-cultural curriculum, with a variety of interesting activities culminating with an international festival on the sixth grade level, is extended to fifth graders who study the Middle Ages and African kingdoms with visits to museums and a medieval dinner theater. Fourth graders are getting ready to greet Julius Caesar in his native language as they prepare for lessons in Latin. It doesn't take long for a visitor to realize our school's commitment to science. Our extensive science inventory includes unique demonstration material and Creature Kits. Our traveling library of over 200 books assists students in choosing and developing interesting projects. Our students' confidence, enthusiasm and competence are evident as they describe their projects and answer questions from peers and adults at our three-day science fair.
