Where teamwork makes the dream work!

The Edwards Williams School is located in a culturally diverse section of Mount Vernon, New York. The main structure of the building has just undergone major renovations. The new renovations provide all the needed handicap accessibility regulations for the New York State Department of Education. We offer an integrated curriculum that adheres to the high education standards of the New York State Department of Education. The classes encompass students from Pre-K through Grade Six. Our staff of over 60 is made of administrators, teachers, and specialists who are committed to meet the intellectual, academic, physical, cultural, social and emotional needs of our children.

Educating the whole child is the most important goal at Edward Williams Elementary School. Our staff includes a full time nurse, social worker, psychologist, speech therapist and school counselor. We also have two Reading Specialists who use the pull-out and push-in teaching system. Creative teaching strategies are used to incorporate the arts and the community into the lives of all our children. All of our 500 children are embraced daily regardless of their backgrounds or living conditions.


In addition to classroom instruction, intervention instruction is offered in all the academic areas. Many proven academic programs are offered including Reading Recovery, inclusion, resource, and special education classes. Academic intervention service programs are also available

Our Parent Teacher Association is a strong and important part of our school with a membership increase of 95%. Our Parent Teacher Association links the school and the parents to the community in which we live. EPIC (Every Person Influences Children), a statewide organization, works closely with the PTA. We offer a wide variety of services for students, parents, and the community. Parent workshops, summer programs for children and their families, outreach services and community agencies are all made possible through our PTA, EPIC, and Social Worker.

Here at Edward Williams Elementary School we dare to care as we soar to new heights. Our children have made gains of over 40% on New York State Assessments while participating in our many extra-curricular activities. Our last ELA scores showed 82% of our fourth graders with passing scores.

We boast of an after-school program that serves 150 of our students in Grades 1-5. The program is in collaboration with WJCS. We also have a student government, Upper Grade Chorus, a school wide Gospel Choir, an intramural basketball team and a certified Chess Club. We expect the best of our students and they give us so much in return.
