LEAST RESTRICTIVE
ENVIRONMENT
The Committee on Special Education must provide each classified student with an education placement in the least restrictive environment able to meet his/ her needs. In accordance with the regulations of the New York State Commissioner of Education

).
Least restrictive environment means that placement of students with disabilities in special classes, separate schools, or removal from the regular education environment occurs only when the nature or severity of the disability is such that even with the use of supplementary aids and services, education cannot be satisfactory achieved. The placement of an individual student with a disability in the least restrictive environment shall:

Provide for education of the student to the maximum extent appropriate to t
he needs of student with other students who do not have disabilities: and

Be as close as possible to the student's home
3.
Provide the special education needed by the student.
